MLK Day

Early morning, April 4th
Shot rings out in the Memphis sky
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your pride

I'm pretty happy I have tomorrow off (technically today--I'm writing this at 2 a.m.). Hopefully I will use this time for good and not for evil... hmm...

But, it's important to remember the reason for the holiday, and I'm loving this classy Google logo tribute to Dr. King:

Happy (belated) Birthday.

Happy Birthday, Michael

I love Google's changing logo. Whoever thought of that should have gotten a big raise. And whoever designs them must have a hell of a lot of fun.

What if Apple's logo were a woodcut?

Truth is, it once was (kinda).

Check out this article and slide show from Fortune magazine about several brands' new logo choices.

A lot of these logo updates are all part of a rebranding trend due to the economy. Dissociate your product with the ideas of inflation and big corporations by making the logo simpler and more similar to traditionally cheaper/generic lines' packaging, and voila!! No one will know you're still charging the same!

Think Pepsi, Microsoft, Wal-Mart, and Best Buy in particular:

Not really sure about the Nickelodeon thing, but I guess those kids were clamoring for change.

Here's a great article about the streamlining of brand identity design, which some companies believe will make them seem "friendlier" and more comforting to consumers.
